Motherless Babies Home
Motherless Babies Home is a not-for-profit childcare center located in Uyo, a city in the southeastern parts of Nigeria. The center caters to children who, in the absence of family care and public social services, are exposed to all forms of exploitation and abuse. Motherless Babies Home provides a haven of comfort and trust where children who have been victims of parental neglect, physical abuse, and psychological trauma are nurtured and given a second chance to live happy and fulfilling lives.
One of the problems plaguing Nigeria as a developing country, is the absence of a functional social service system, which is one reason that millions of Nigerian children who are abandoned by parents often end up in child labor, trying to fend for themselves in an environment that renders them potential victims of abuse.
Understanding the crippled state of the Nigerian social service system while also valuing the importance of positive experience in the lives of children, Motherless Babies Home in Uyo provides not just shelter and nutritional sustenance for abandoned children but also learning programs aimed at fostering their developmental needs. Many of the children at the center arrive there at a very early age and stay on for several more. Some begin their stay in the center as babies and are, thus, named by the staff. As sad as some of these stories are, they form the basis of a loving and nurturing relationship between the staffs and the children. Despite overwhelming challenges, Motherless Babies Home in Uyo, with the help of trained and volunteer staff, run a program that seeks to address the needs of children and their right to a safe, healthy, positive, and familial environment.
With little or no government support, Motherless Babies Home depends on the goodwill of donors. Yet, funding continues to be a problem. Due to lack of funds, less Babies Home struggles hard but can barely meet its main objective of fulfilling adequately the nutritional, health, and educational needs of the children under its care. Needs range from facility improvements such as the availability of mosquito-proof rooms, running water, infant beds, and infant feeding accessories to the accessibility of health care infrastructure that would enable the center to care for HIV infected babies, provide immunization, and employ trained staff.
At StoneField, we strongly believe that art and entertainment can be brought to the service of the community, which is why we donate a portion of our earnings to the Motherless Babies Home in Uyo. By sponsoring or attending one of our shows, you are actually contributing towards not just the survival but also the happiness and positive experience of a child who has been the victim of parental neglect. Join us in our commitment to place art in the service of society.
